Christmas Draws Near!

hgcc.jpg

I thought id post a festive picture as we get very close to Christmas! This was taken in my house of the every familiar Candle figure decoration. What i like most about the image is the angle, the slight reflection in the window and the contrast in colours between the tips of the light and the dark background!

Ice cold!

DSCF0005.jpg

This picture was taken last year at a pond near my house. It had been freezing hard for the past few days and the ice had grown thick over the surface of the water. This is one of them images that I look at and almost feel the cold! Evoking such emotions from images is difficult and rare but somthing I always strive for as a photographer.

Snow Storm!

pic4blog.jpg

I took this image whilst it was snowing heavy at Huddersfield. It snowed for the best part of a week! There are three levels to the picture which give it depth, the misty background, the row of trees situated in the middle and the snow in the foreground.

Abstract Snow!

DSCF0042.jpg

DSCF0003.jpg

These are a couple of images I had in my collection that are a bit more abstract. The first image is taken close to the ground looking up over the hill. The grass tuffs are all that is above the snow. The second image shows the snow streaming down past a street lamp. Set to a slower shutter speed it highlights the swirls and direction of the snow.

News update!

First thing to mention is that the second section on my website Captured Nature is now live online. The second section contains “Water” images. In the main they are quite abstract shots of water.

The second news update is that my fourth photography article is now live online. The article is called Photography Blogs

Here I have looked at the latest craze sweeping the Internet, and how as a photographer you can take advantage of it.

Snow patterns

DSCF0022.jpg

DSCF003awd7.jpg

In these images I wanted to show some of the amazing shapes, textures and patterns that the snow creates when landing on certain surfaces. If conditions are right, little wind and the snow falling gently but steadily, it settles and creates an outwards copy of the surface it lands on. These 2 images show the shapes created from landing on tree bark.

Christmas Spirit!

DSCF0025.jpg

DSCF0067.jpg

Now into December we start showing the wintry scenes, as promised! To start off the Christmas spirit are a couple of images from one of my favourite places, Dalmain estate near Penrith, just inside the Lake District. After snowfall the land is transformed into a new world, and the old house looks just the same as it did centuries ago. The second picture shows the courtyard of the great house, the striking shadow across the stonewall giving a strong focal point to the image.
