Jack Frost!

iceongrass.jpg

As my mother always use to say, Jack Frost has been about! I took this shot yesterday morning. It had froze hard in the night and I went for an early morning walk. This grass was thickly covered in ice drops. The sun had just come over the hedge and hitting the icy grass. I got down low for the shot to maximize the effect of the suns light.

Red Clouds

clouds1.jpg

There is somthing I like about the simplicity of this image. The three sections of colour, to the bottom are the stormy dark clouds, in the middle is the wispy pink edges to the cloud that have been caught by the setting sun, and at the top if the image is the blue sky that you would expect to see on a clear day. This image has it all in one!

Fern leaf

fern3.jpg

I took this image whilst out on a walk through some woodland. The lighting on the leaf was quite nice as well as the leafs natural curve. I got in close to the leaf and was quite pleased with the result.

Tree face!

tree-face.jpg

It’s not how the image was taken that is of interest here but the amazing subject. This tree stands in the grounds of Storthes Hall in Huddersfield. If you look closely at the tree trunk you can clearly see a face, with entire features, even down to the outline shape of the face! There is an eye complete with eyebrow, a clear nose and a stern looking mouth! I have played around with the colour to try and emphasise the face more. An incredible feature that I am sure I will never see anything like again.

Sun rays

Sun-rays.jpg

This image was shot in the Lake District overlooking the hills at Ullswater. The sun was just breaking through the clouds. I have changed the image into Sepia as an experiment and I am pleased with the outcome. It has given the image a greater visual presence than the original colour of greys.

Driftwood on the River Ribble

DSCF0017.jpg

This picture was taken on the banks of the River Ribble. I was out for a walk and this piece of driftwood caught my eye. I had a look around it and got down on my knees to have a closer look, it was then I looked through the gap and was blinded by the sunlight! However I thought it would take quite a nice photograph and I am pleased with the outcome. The driftwood gives an unusual but natural frame and the sunrays add just a touch of colour. I also like the contrast of the white sky in the middle to the dark grey in the top left of the image.

Majorca

DSCF0059.jpg

majorca1.jpg

Thought id show a bit of Majorca architecture! The top image was of an impressive defensive wall. Apparently the island was prone to attacks from pirate ships in days gone by and so even many of the farms have defensive walls around them that still stand today. The bottom image is of the huge Cathedral that looks like a life-size sand castle!

Photography Artwork

I thought it would be interesting to show a couple of manipulated images. I tend not to alter my photographs much but sometimes I like to have a little play around to see what I can come up with. Here are a couple of photographs I took which have had most of the image taken away and replaced with white. The idea was to see how far I could reduce the images but still retaining their recognition. I think they work strongly on the white. The top image of the windmill on Lytham front, near Blackpool. The bottom image was a block of flats in Majorca that I took whilst on holiday.

Roswhaite

DSCF0028.jpg

May I start off by wishing you a very Happy New Year! I hope 2006 brings you every success and happiness!

Coming back to the photography, today I have shown a couple of images from a walk in Roswhaite in the Lake District. The area is breath taking in its scenery. It also provides a very pleasant walk. The top image is of the local pub. The pub has a dramatic setting and is located right next to the river, perfect place for a pint! The bottom image was of one of the valleys covered in thick woodland.
